Cucumbers

I have been getting a lot of questions about the different types of cucumbers I have available this year. From snacking cucumber to pickling cucumbers I have some good options.

To help you decide on which cucumber fits your needs the best I have included descriptions of the different types of cucumbers here.

.............................................................................

Cucamelon- Mexican Sour Gherking Cucumber-

Looks like a miniature watermelon but is a cucumber. Crunch into them and they have a cucumber like taste with a lemony-lime burst. Easy to grow, having rampant vines, best grown on a trellis or in hanging baskets and easily ignored by pests. Harvest when they are smaller than a grape; the bigger they get the more sour citrus flavor they get. Eat them raw as a snack and in salads or preserve by pickling.

Burpless Beauty Cucumber-

Stays crisp longer than any cucumber we've tried.

The super-productive vines yield loads of long, deep green cucumbers that stay crisp longer than any other weve tried. Pick and slice to reveal the pure white, firm flesh with an exceptionally small seed cavity. The thin-skinned cukes have the right balance of crispness and juiciness-and these mild beauties are easy on the digestion. Disease-resistant plants set fruits over several months.

Dragon Egg Cucumber-
Its cream to creamy white colored skin and chubby oval egg shape really do look like an egg growing from a vine. It has a refreshing, mild flavor, doesn't need peeling, and yields well, picking them every one to two days for the best fruit. Check and pick every day to keep the harvest flowing. The fruit is enjoyed as a novelty for its appearance as well as its relatively sweet flavor.

Garden Bush Slicer Cucumber-

A Space saver that produces an abundance of smooth cukes that are best when 6-8” long. The dark green, straight cukes are great slices or as sticks.

Garden Sweet Burpless Cucumber-

Slicing cucumber with sweet flavor.

An exceptional burpless slicing cucumber with sweet flavor. Medium green 10 to 12" long, cylindrical, smooth fruits on vigorous plants. It has good disease resistance.

Green Dragon Burpless Cucumber-

New sweet cucumber long and never bitter

Lemon Cucumber-

Dont be fooled by this heirlooms unusual shape-these bright yellow balls are excellent for salads and pickling. They have a clean, crisp taste and are never bitter. Normal-sized vines yield heavily and for a long time. The cucumber, almost round, is about 3.5" long. This cucumber will turn an alluring lemon-shade of yellow when it is mature.

Mini Me Cucumber-
These make delicious, crispy snacks that grow well in the greenhouse or garden. snack-sized, mini cucumbers that grow well in the field or greenhouse. High yielding mini-beit alpha plants are covered in small, uniform fruits that have very smooth skin and juicy, refreshing flesh. Harvest when fruit is finger sized.

Muncher Cucumber-

Smooth medium-green fruits are 6 to 9 inches long and 2 to 3 inches thick. Not bitter or tough in any stage. Burpless type. Strong, vigorous vines are mosaic resistant and prolific. Can be eaten fresh like an apple or pickled.

Picklebush Cucumber -

Space-saving 2’ plants produce an abundance of 4-5” fruits for pickling.

Spacemaster (bush) Cucumber-

Bushes of compact vines. 7 ½”-8” long produces heavy yields. Great slicing cucumber also great for pickling. Mosaic-resistant plants produce heavy yields.

Straight eight cucumber
- Sweet, milky flesh. Excellent flavor for salads and dipping, if picked small, the cukes are good for pickling too. Great slicing cucumber. Named for its perfectly straight, 8-inch long fruit, this slicing cucumber has long been prized for its high quality, flavor, and even, deep green color.
